Samsung
introduces a new feature
Samsung has recently announced that the
latest Galaxy smartphones will feature biometrics, i.e. in order to unlock the
device it will use your fingerprint as a passcode. This is similar to Apple’s
fingerprint scanner built into the main button.
Samsung Galaxy 5S will be available for
purchasing in April, 2014, and will be both dust and water-proof.
A world leader in smartphone sales, South
Korea Samsung also highlights the fact that it has created one of the fastest
auto-focusing cameras in the whole world. In addition the new device features
the Gear Fit, which is a smartband for those who are into fitness.
Security
Issue
Security plays a crucial role in the mobile
world today.
Silent Circle has recently launched the
Blackphone that features several security applications that make encrypted
communication possible.
As far as Samsung is concerned, it was the
security feature that impressed those who attended the launch event at Mobile
World Congress in Barcelona.
It is also worth mentioning that besides
unlocking the device, the fingerprint scanner will be also used to perform
payments. Samsung is now working with Paypal in order to provide the
pay-by-finger option. Thus Samsung and Paypal have become a perfect combination;
the first being one of the most popular smartphone providers, while the latter
is a trusted payment service organization.
Alongside security features, Samsung also
provoked applause due to its black and white mode. It has been designed to save
battery by disabling all the features besides the most important ones as well
as limiting the power the screen uses.
Android
vs. Tizen
Nowadays Samsung dominates the world of
smartphones. According to some recent surveys, it delivered over 400 million
devices in 2013, which is considerably more than Apple’s results – 153 million.
Before the event, there was a wide
speculation as to the fact that Samsung would drop Android and start using
Tizen. Nevertheless Samsung smartphones will keep using Google’s system, while
its smartwatches will be using Tizen. Hence this piece of news has a positive
impact upon Google given that it is Samsung that makes Android the most popular
operating system in the world.
